Website maintenance and security

Websites don't stay healthy on their own. We look after sites every day: monitoring, backups, updates and adjustments, and when a site gets hacked, we clean it up and lock it down.

A website isn't finished when it launches. Software goes out of date, plugins break each other, servers fill up and, more and more often, sites get hacked. We maintain websites every day so the ones we look after keep running, and we clean up the ones that didn't get that care.

Book a once-off maintenance check at a fixed price, or keep us on a monthly retainer so we're available and checking on your site all the time.

  • Regular backups, so there's always a clean copy to restore

Once-off check or monthly retainer

Checked every day

We check on the sites we look after every day: is it up, is it loading properly, is anything throwing errors, has anything changed that shouldn't have. Most problems are caught and fixed before a customer ever notices them.

Backups and updates

Regular backups mean there's always a clean copy to roll back to. Updates to the core, plugins and themes are applied carefully and checked afterwards, so an update never quietly takes your site down.

Hacked? We clean it up

We've seen a sharp rise in hacked websites lately. We remove the malware, close the hole that let it in, restore clean files and harden the site so the same attack doesn't work twice.

What happens when nobody looks after a website

Most of the damaged sites we're asked to fix weren't badly built. They were left alone.

  1. It gets hacked

Out-of-date plugins and themes are the most common way in. A hacked site can redirect visitors to spam, send junk email from your domain, steal form data or get flagged by Google as unsafe.

  2. It breaks after an update

Updates that are applied blindly, or never applied at all, are how forms stop sending, checkouts stop working and pages go blank, often without anyone noticing for weeks.

  3. There's no backup to go back to

When something goes wrong, a recent clean backup is the difference between a quick restore and rebuilding from scratch.

  4. It goes down quietly

Expired certificates, full disks and server problems take sites offline. Every hour it's down is enquiries and sales going to someone else.

Questions

What happens if my website gets hacked?

Get in touch straight away. We remove the malware, find and close the way in, restore clean files and harden the site so it's harder to break into again. Sites we look after on a maintenance retainer are checked every day, so problems are usually caught before your customers see them.

Can I update the website myself?

Yes. We build on systems you can manage, and we train your team at handover. If you'd rather not touch it, we offer a maintenance plan where we handle updates and take responsibility if anything breaks.

Do you offer hosting and business email?

Yes, through our hosting arm. It covers LiteSpeed hosting, free SSL, custom-domain email and support from the same people who built your site, so there's no finger-pointing between host and developer.

What's the difference between a once-off check and a retainer?

A once-off check is a fixed-price job: we go through the site and server, take a backup, apply updates, fix what we find and report back. A retainer keeps us on your site every month with daily monitoring, backups, updates and small changes, and we're available when something needs attention.

My website has been hacked. Can you fix it?

Yes. We remove the malware, find and close the way in, restore clean files and harden the site so the same attack doesn't work again. If Google has flagged your site as unsafe, we help you get the warning removed once it's clean.

Do you maintain websites you didn't build?

Yes. We start with a once-off check so we know exactly what we're working with before we take it on.

Why does a website need maintenance at all?

Because the software it runs on keeps changing. Updates fix security holes, but they can also break things. Maintenance means someone applies them carefully, keeps backups, watches for problems and fixes them before they cost you customers.
